I was 42 when I stood in the middle of a studio packed with thousands of dollars’ worth of pristine tools and realized I hadn't made a single thing by hand in over a year.

It wasn’t a lack of supplies. The shelves were overflowing with premium cardstock, pristine paints, and expensive cutting machines. But the joy of making had completely evaporated. The tools I had accumulated during my fifteen years as a commercial designer felt like heavy obligations. Creating had become about perfection, production, and mimicking an impossible internet standard. I sat down on the floor surrounded by unopened vinyl rolls and cried for a solid ten minutes. I’m a practical person; I timed it.

That afternoon was the messy, ink-stained beginning of Druckhaus König.
